Welcome to the Centre for Mobile Computing!
The mission of the Centre for Mobile Computing is to engage in leading edge research to enhance New Zealand's capability in mobile computing.
We fulfil that mission in a variety of ways:
- Research focus: Our research and related activities currently focus on the three research focus areas of mobile business, mobile health and mobile learning.
- Applied research: A variety of staff and postgraduate research projects have been completed or are in progress. In almost all cases, this research has real and immediate application in business, health and education.
- Research partnerships: Many of our research projects include industry or government cooperation. We welcome new partnerships with commercial enterprises, non-profit organisations and government agencies.
- Research transfer: Research isn't effective if it stays in the lab or withers away in academic papers. Our research, and research from elsewhere in the world, is distributed and promoted to the professional communities we serve through a variety of forums.
- Research funding: Grants and contracts from government and industry are combined with internal funding from Massey University to increase our research productivity.
- Professional partnerships: CMC is a member and active participant in several professional groups including Wireless and Broadband Forum, Connect New Zealand, Auckland's ICT Cluster and Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand.
- Research-based teaching: Massey University's Auckland campus offers a variety of papers at both the undergraduate (e.g., Web-based and Mobile Systems) and postgraduate (e.g., Mobile Computing Systems, Mobile Business) levels.
Value proposition: We believe mobile computing is a rapidly developing area of information technology that holds significant promise for meeting the needs of businesses and consumers for information and services wherever they are, whatever the time and with great immediacy. The staff of the Centre for Mobile Computing have a variety of research skills, technical expertise and business experience to lead New Zealand to the forefront of mobile computing.
